Every seven years, a powerful and mysterious force known as the Skull Heart grants a woman a single wish. However, should that woman's soul be less than pure, both her wish and her body shall be corrupted into a living nightmare that haunts all of humanity with its horror and malice. She will become the Skullgirl.
Seven years ago, the three great nations of the world waged a terrible war against one another. Their relentless campaigns across the terrain left in their wake a desolate No-Man's Land, and it was here that the final battle was to commence. A beautiful queen in possession of the Skull Heart, deeply hurt by the violence and tragedies of the great war, made a wish that the nations would unite and cease their attacks against each other. But the power of her desire for peace made her the strongest Skullgirl yet.
Faced with the most terrible nightmare the world had ever seen, the three nations had no choice but to end their war and form an alliance in the spirit of cooperation. For the price of countless soldiers' lives, and the soul of the queen, the Skull Heart had brought an end to the great war. Her wish had been granted. Horrified by the devastation the war had ultimately brought, the nations have remained in alliance with one another to this day. The Skull Heart was lost amidst the bloody carnage, and has not been seen since.
Seven years have past since that terrible wish was granted. The time has come for a new Skullgirl to rise to power, and a new nightmare to begin. Once again, young women set foot on the dark path to No-Man's Land, ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of a single wish.
